The Freshest of the East End: Montauk Farmers Market Returns May 16

April 11, 2024 by chamber

Every year, the Montauk Chamber of Commerce and Visit Montauk hosts a weekly farmers market on our town Green. There are numerous elements that make our market unique from other Farmers Markets around the nation. One is our incredible variety of amazing vendors that participate. One is the fact that you are steps away from the beach while indulging in the freshest produce around. The list goes on and on. We asked some of our vendors themselves, what is it that makes Montauk’s Farmers Market just so unique. Check out a few of the thoughts they had.

Q. What inspired you to become a part of our Farmers Market?

A. Well, for starters, it is one of the best markets on Long Island. We are proud to offer our locally-made wine in such a beautiful setting with a wide reach. The market provides a unique opportunity to meet new customers who may not have experienced our vineyard before. We’re excited to showcase our delicious wine to them and welcome them for a visit.
– Mackenzie Chrzanowski at Pindar Vineyard

Q. What sets Montauk’s Farmers Market apart from others?

A. Montauk is the ultimate idyllic destination of Long Island and it’s fitting to have a large Farmers Market to match that energy.
– Nick Horman at Horman’s Best Pickles

Q. Why do you think Farmers Market are important for a community like Montauk?

A. Farmers Markets in places like Montauk are crucial as they support local farmers, promote sustainable agriculture, and provide residents with access to fresh, seasonal produce. Additionally, they foster community connections and contribute to the overall well-being by offering healthier food options.
– Mario Pecoraro at Arlotta Food Studio

Q. Can you describe what a typical day looks like for you at the Farmers Market?

A. A typical day at the Farmers Market starts very early in the morning. We begin loading any veggies, fruit, and or flowers that we are bringing to the market from the cooler to our van. Everything was harvested the day and night before, this way it could be washed and bunched for the morning of the market. Once we load the van we drive from East Hampton to Montauk again unloading at the market. We set up our tents, tables, and display. At 2:00pm we begin to put away any extra produce away. We pack up the tents and tables and head back to East Hampton to get ready to do it again at our next market! Typically we will harvest tomatoes in the evening after the market as well!

Q. What is your favorite memory of the Montauk Farmers Market?

A. The weekly beautiful weather and salty breeze and being with our fellow vendor friends are some of our favorite memories.
